Slow Roads is the opposite of a racing game. There are no rivals, no checkpoints and no clock, just one road that the game builds in front of your headlights for as long as you feel like driving. Made by a solo developer with three.js, it generates every hill, forest and cliff on the fly, so the stretch of tarmac ahead of you has never existed before and will never come back. Grassland melts into pine woods, the road climbs a mountain pass and then drops to a coastline where waves roll in beside the guardrail. Open the settings and you can change the season, bring in fog or snow, or set the sun low for a golden-hour drive. You can choose between a small two-seater coupe, a motorbike and a big coach, and each one leans and grips differently in the bends. It is the perfect cool-down after a frantic chase in Escape Road or a few crashes in Drive Mad.
Drive with W, A, S, D or the arrow keys: up to accelerate, down to brake, left and right to steer. The handling is gentle but real, so ease off before hairpins or you will drift onto the grass. Press F to switch on autodrive and let the vehicle steer and keep speed by itself while you just enjoy the view; there are also separate options for automatic steering or automatic speed only. Use the menu to swap vehicles, change the camera angle, adjust weather and season, or jump to a brand new world. There is no score and nothing to lose, so the best way to play is to pick a mood, turn the music on and keep driving.
