Overview

A Dark Room

It begins with nothing but darkness and a crackling fire. A Dark Room draws you in with its minimalist style and slowly unfolds into a rich, thought-provoking journey. What starts as a simple survival game soon transforms into a deeper narrative filled with secrets, strategy, and unexpected twists. Gather resources, build a community, and explore a strange, post-apocalyptic world—all told through atmospheric text. Mysterious, immersive, and surprisingly emotional. As your settlement grows, you'll manage workers, craft tools and weapons, and send scouting parties into the wilderness to uncover new locations and resources. Difficult choices about who to trust and what to sacrifice shape the story as it unfolds, rewarding patient, curious players with a surprisingly deep world hidden behind its stripped-down text interface. Few games prove that great storytelling and strategy don't need flashy graphics quite like A Dark Room does. If you enjoy slow-burn resource management and idle strategy, you might also like Idle Success and Idle Ants.

How to Play?

Control and achieve victory:

A Dark Room is a text-based game, so it doesn’t rely on traditional controls. Instead, everything is done through simple clicks or taps: Click text options and buttons using your mouse to make decisions, gather resources, or explore. The game progresses through menus and choices—no keyboard needed. Keep the fire stoked early on to unlock new actions, then reinvest gathered wood, fur, and meat into buildings that expand what your growing village can produce. Check back on your resources regularly, since idle production continues even while you're deciding your next move, and don't be afraid to explore the wider map once your camp is stable enough to spare a few workers.
